FFXIII Sword Transformation

Description

(Resource for people intending to construct Lightning's transforming gunblade... with the transforming portion.)

SE comes up with yet another transforming weapon (Cloud's FF7AC buster sword being the first?)... the problem is that they don't give any technical explanation on how the sword actually transforms, leaving fans like me to figure it out ourselves.

Following on *fevereon's [link] and her comment that SE actually cheated on the transformation, I went to see if it was for real. Hunted for FFXIII trailers on the net. Amazingly, one of them contained the full sword transformation sequence, as seen above.

Transformation Sequence as narrated by me:
-------
-The length of the gun/rifle opens up. At the same time, the sword blade starts to shift forward, while the part supporting the back of the sword blade rotates along with it.
*Note* If you look closely, you'll notice that the sword blade and the part that moves along with it... aren't connected. This either means that there's a hidden mechanism within the internal black portion of the sword that moves the blade forward, or that the blade moves by itself. =.=

-The length of the gun closes back onto itself, then does a 180 degree rotation to fold to become the 'handle guard' of the sword. At the same time, the teeth on it retract back.
*Note* Notice that for the bottom half of the rifle length, both parts are connected, forming a barrel hole in the middle. In order for the bottom half to fully fold back into the sword, the sword handle actually rotates backward to create a space for it to fold into.

-The red 'horn' at the top tip of the rifle moves all the way back and does a 180 degree rotation so that after the gun has transformed into the sword, the 'horn' essentially remains at the same position.

-The black 'horns' on each side of the rifle rotate in the same manner as the red 'horn' did, allowing them to stay in the same position in sword form as with gun form.
*Note* The red and black 'horns', from what I can see, should be connected to the length of the rifle from both sides. There could likely be a rail system inside that allows the 'horns' to move about.
-------

That's pretty much whats in the transformation sequence. Most of the transformation is mechanically possible in real life, save for the sword blade moving when not being connected to anything. Lastly, if you plan on making an actual working replica of the sword, I can only wish you good luck.. you'll be needing it.

Thank you for this!
It's a great help! My boyfriend and me are planning to create a fullmetal version of this sword WITH it's funktion to can be transformed.

It's really hard to get some good references!
